Interesting museum with a lot of items, but the descriptions are generally very detailed. Sounds be nice to have an overview to make it easier to skim"."

Disappointingly dower. You had to use ring binder English translations in each room rather than have them where the items were. Room stewards made relaxed viewing impossible. In the end I just read the history parts of the binders and wandered quickly through the exhibition. Can't believe it cost more than the much better medical museum and the same of the awesome museum of occupation.

Ekspozīcija par Rīgas vēsturi un izcelsmi. Pēc muzeja nosaukuma gaidīju mazliet kaut ko citu- vairāk kuģniecības eksponātus, taču ekspozīcija pārsvarā par Rīgas vēsturi. Kopumā apskatei kādas 11 telpas, 2 stāvos. Ja iedziļinās katrā ekspozīcijā, tad jārēķinās ar vairāk nekā stundu visa apskatei.

A great little museum. It was super quiet when we went at around 2pm on a weekday and had the rooms to ourselves for the most part. The museum is extensive and took us over 2 hours to walk around. There aren't english translations on the labels and so you have to use booklets in each room. We didn't find that this took anything away from our experience however and the museum has some fantastic items. A great day out, however it wouldn't be on the top of our list, especially when this museum is competing with other, newer museums nearby.

The Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation is an absolute gem nestled within the heart of the charming Latvian capital. From the moment I stepped through its doors, I was transported through time on a captivating journey through the rich tapestry of Riga's history and the evolution of navigation. The museum's meticulously curated exhibits are a testament to the dedication and passion of its curators. Each section is a masterfully designed tableau, immersing visitors in the past and providing a vivid window into the lives of the people who shaped Riga's story. The attention to detail is truly remarkable, with artifacts, documents, and interactive displays offering a multi-dimensional understanding of the city's history. What truly sets this museum apart is its dual focus on both the history of Riga and the art of navigation. The juxtaposition of these two themes creates a unique and dynamic narrative that's both engaging and enlightening. From the bustling medieval trade routes to the innovative maritime technologies of the modern era, the museum seamlessly weaves together the threads of history and exploration.By the way, the availability of book guides in three languages at once deserves special praise: English, German and Russian. Additionally, the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation is not just a place for history enthusiasts; it's a treasure trove for anyone interested in culture, art, science, or simply the joys of discovery. The museum's dedication to preserving the past while embracing the future is truly commendable. It's an institution that showcases Riga's evolution with pride and reverence, offering a profound appreciation for the city's heritage and its significance on a global scale. Whether you're a seasoned traveler, a student of history, or just looking for an enriching experience, the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation is an absolute must-visit.

Very nice museum, and nice to know that it has been a museum for over 200 years! Lots to see and very affordable pricing. Beautiful halls and history spans from Stone Age to 20th century. Navigation section has lots of great models. Loved it.

Riga has such a rich history, so a visit to this museum is very much worth it. Well explaining booklets in every room (in several languages), and tour guides are available for a fair price. When visiting the Baltic states knowing something about the most important city of the region is an absolute must. This museum is a great start, but deep divers that already have a basic knowledge will be served too all to well.
