It is very nice to see an old site well maintained.The Swedish Gate is what's left of the fortification that surrounded Riga in the Middle Ages. It was built in 1698.

Quite an interesting place...and many don't go behind the row of restaurants on the other side. The opened painted doors at just near the southern entrance to the Swedish Gate section and add their own charm to the location.It's worth seeing, takes 10min, but many will miss it.

The restaurant is in the old town.Friendly and fast staff, who speak perfect English. Warm atmosphere.Good and tasty food: I tried an excellent pea soup with croutons and seeds. As well as excellent pork goulash with potatoes.I also really liked the music selection.They also have a business menu for a tasty lunch break.Highly recommended.

It's one of the iconic landmarks in the Riga. It gives the old town vibes and surrounding streets are beautiful too. It's near Riga castle.

One of the most popular landmarks in Old Riga. In the medieval times trucks of food and other goods would arrive through this gate and deliver the products. Now it's a beautiful place to take pictures and enjoy the beautiful view! It's really easy to find and they're some amazing restaurants and souvenir shops nearby!

Interesting part of Riga's history, if even only a tiny part of it. Our tour guide advised this gate was built so the soldiers housed in the barracks on the other side of what was solid wall at the time, didn't have to walk a kilometre to the nearest gate, and then another kilometre to noisy street" where all of the brothels where.I'm sure there's more to it than that but it's a lovely little anecdote about human behaviour!"

A beautiful and iconic landmark for tourist. The place surrounding it are also very classy and have loads of wonderful food joints. A real gem in the old town center.
